Overview

This policy brief presents evidence from implementation research on integrating multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) into routine antenatal care in Nigeria. Conducted in Bauchi State, the study assessed MMS acceptability among key stakeholders, acceptability and perceived feasibility of adherence solutions, women’s adherence to MMS, and key enablers and barriers, related to two delivery approaches (MMS-Core and MMS-Core+). Findings show high acceptance among pregnant women, families, and health providers, with strong adherence supported by reliable supply, quality counselling, and community engagement. The brief recommends integrating MMS into ANC policies, strengthening health worker capacity, ensuring sustainable supply and financing, and adopting phased scale-up strategies to improve maternal nutrition and birth outcomes.
