Closing the gap: How MMS implementation research is enhancing quality pregnancy care in Nigeria
Many women in Nigeria attend antenatal care—but not all continue taking the supplements that support a healthy pregnancy as recommended. Closing this gap requires more than access; it requires ongoing support and guidance.
In Bauchi State, mama-to-mama groups are one example of community structures helping connect these two worlds. Through peer support and home visits, women encourage each other to seek care early, stay engaged throughout pregnancy and follow recommended guidance, including taking multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) every day.
This video highlights how community structures are strengthening continuity of care as part of implementation research led by the Government of Nigeria and Bauchi State in partnership with Nutrition International. By centring women’s experiences and leveraging trusted local networks, this work is helping inform how MMS can be scaled to better support women and families across the country.
