Rod Phillips is a business and public policy leader with extensive experience across the private sector, government and community service. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of Canaccord Genuity Corporation, Chair of Toronto Global and Petal Health, and sits on the board of Aecon Group Inc.
Elected in 2018 as Member of Provincial Parliament for Ajax, Rod served in the Ontario Legislature as Minister of Finance, Minister of Long-Term Care, and Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks. Prior to public life, he was President and CEO of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and of Morneau-Shepell (Lifeworks), a health and productivity company. He has held board leadership roles at Postmedia Network Canada Corp., where he served as Chair, as Canadian Chair and Global Advisory Board member of AI unicorn Afiniti, and on the corporate boards of Data Communications Management, Top Aces, and the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation.
Rod began his career at KPMG and Goodmans LLP and served as Chief of Staff to the first Mayor of the amalgamated City of Toronto. He is a lifelong community volunteer, having supported organizations focused on civic development, medical and life sciences and mental health. He was selected as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and recognized as one of the “Best of the Best” on the award’s 10th Anniversary. Together with his investment partner the Clairvest Group, he received the Canadian Venture Capital Association Deal of the Year in the Private Equity category. In 2010, he was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the 32nd Combat Engineers Regiment, headquartered at Downsview Base in Toronto.
He holds a BA from Western University, an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, and the ICD.D designation from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
