Joseph Wong is a professor of Political Science and a faculty member at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, where he also serves as Vice-President, International. He previously held the Canada Research Chair in Health, Democracy, and Development and the Roz and Ralph Halbert Professorship of Innovation at the Munk School and served as Director of the Asian Institute from 2005 to 2014.
Joe is the author of numerous academic articles and several books on health policy, democracy and development in Asia, published by Cornell, Princeton, and other leading university presses. His work has appeared in journals including the Lancet and the Bulletin of the World Health Organization. He has been a visiting scholar at Harvard, Oxford and other institutions, and has collaborated with international organizations and governments across Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe.
He is the founder of the Reach Alliance at the Munk School, a research initiative that examines how development interventions are delivered to the world’s most hard to reach populations. He is also co-founder of the Global Ideas Institute, which engages high school students in global research and mentorship.
Joe holds a BA (Hons.) in Political Science from McGill University and an MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
