Partnering with Girl Effect’s Springster platform to deliver key nutrition information to adolescent girls in Indonesia
2017 - 2020
Harnessing the power of social media to deliver nutrition content girls love and interact with, helping them feel empowered to make healthy decisions to improve their nutrition and their futures.
Reaching adolescent girls like never before
Girl Effect is a creative non-profit that uses media and mobile technology to reach millions of adolescent girls, with the goal of empowering them to change their lives.
Through its global mobile platform Springster, Girl Effect connects marginalized and vulnerable girls to each other and to the content, services, tips and advice they need to reach their full potential.
Springster, one of Facebook Free Basics’ top five most visited sites, has already been used by 1.75 million Indonesian girls, as well as millions more in Nigeria, South Africa, the Philippines, and more than 50 other countries. With 30 million users in 66 countries, nutrition content can reach millions of adolescent girls where they are—on their phones—in a way that has never before been possible.
Creating accessible nutrition content through Springster
Indonesia is a country with worrying nutrition statistics, but a flourishing digital landscape. With financial and technical support from Nutrition International through Nutrition Leverage and Influence for Transformation (NLIFT), Girl Effect creates evidence-based and age-appropriate nutrition content tailored to adolescent girls in Indonesia to be shared through Springster. Nutrition content is also integrated into the platform’s other thematic areas, like economic empowerment and health.
The Impact
Giving adolescent girls more agency
Our partnership with Girl Effect promotes gender equality, increases girls' knowledge and awareness about nutrition and helps them feel empowered to make healthy, nutritious choices so they can build the future they want.
