United Nations Population Fund, Nigeria
Working with UN Population Fund, we're increasing knowledge and awareness of iron-folic acid supplementation and healthy diet among adolescent girls, women of reproductive age, and healthcare workers.
Integrating nutrition into existing development programs, platforms and networks that aren’t nutrition-centric.
At the heart of all NLIFT’s work is the health of women and adolescent girls. Our mission to improve women’s nutrition and support women’s equality and agency is interwoven into each of our investments.
NLIFT seeks new opportunities to integrate nutrition interventions into existing development programs.
NLIFT (Nutrition Leverage and Influence for Transformation) integrates nutrition interventions into existing and large-scale platforms that are reaching target populations through service delivery or other means of engagement.
The scope and reach of these platforms, which may be delivering health, education, or employment services, along with willing implementation partners, make them ideal for the integration of nutrition interventions.
The integration of nutrition into these platforms maximizes health impacts and strengthens investments across the development sector in areas like education, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and economic development.
We work with partners in health, education, agriculture, and newcomers to the nutrition landscape.
NLIFT works with partners who are either not traditionally engaged in nutrition interventions or whose programs do not address nutrition to build innovative programs that leverage unique delivery methods, such as digital technologies, workplace behaviour change communications, and adolescent educational programming, to integrate nutrition.
With a $25 million anchor investment provided by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, this Nutrition International-led initiative uses small, targeted investments, using innovative financing mechanisms like impact bonds and results-for-payment schemes, to better incentivize successful and sustainable program results.
Leveraging resources
Fostering innovative partnerships to scale up nutrition
NLIFT’s partners are dedicated to improving the lives of millions of women, adolescent girls and young children in Asia and Africa. These partners want to make an even bigger impact on the world by integrating nutrition into their established programming to bring even greater benefits to the people they serve. Leveraging the strengths, reach and resources of our partners, NLIFT develops investments that have the potential to scale and replicate at the local, regional and global level. We provide our non-nutrition partners with technical expertise, including research on process and methodologies to measure non-health impact, with consideration for gender equality.
NLIFT amplifies nutrition program impact by using proven, evidence-based interventions.
By using existing channels and delivery platforms for transition to scale programs, NLIFT helps to overcome traditional issues in scaling up nutrition programs, such as:
Through targeted investments which use a leverage scheme with stakeholders, NLIFT helps to unlock additional priority funding for nutrition amongst multisectoral partners and domestic governments.
NLIFT makes four types of investments to catalyze the integration of nutrition into development efforts.
NLIFT investments work through advocacy (behaviour or policy change), analytical (research), programmatic (service delivery or training) and innovative finance approaches. Most investments touch one or more of these areas.
NLIFT works like a financial portfolio, with diverse investments across a variety of sectors in Asia and Africa. Each is designed to maximize return on investment, measured using the following outcomes:
